Week 7 Content Reflection

This week we read two articles regarding ethics in IT and ethics as it relates to science and technology. Reading these articles, I tried reflecting on them as I tied the topics to what we’ve done in this course so far. The article by Laudon provides 4 basic schools of classical/contemporary ethics, relating them to technology ethics in a professional sense. These entail collective rule-based ethics, individual rule-based ethics, collective consequentialists, and individual consequentialists. Overall, the article suggests that IT specialists view ethics as a process of understanding and reasoning. The second article by Bynum introduces information ethics, which is an attempt at understanding human in a society and how they seek justice, strategize, etc. This article for me, was very interesting, though a bit harder of a concept to grasp overall. These articles tied in well with our other readings we’ve done in this course. We have learn a lot about ethics in how we use technology in schools, during a pandemic, in the workplace, in how our technology is developed, and much more. Something that made analyzing the pop culture topic so much easier was having a basic knowledge of things to consider when thinking about ethics in technology and how people utilize it in the ways they want and need.
